An Iowa City ritual

Grown with the purpose of creating a specialty coffee, our Guatemalan Injerto espresso provides a complex, rich acidity. It bears touches of jasmine, peach, lime grape, and brown sugar caught in a creamy body. For over a hundred years the El Injerto plantation has had one vision, to become a denomination coffee of known origin, who and where it is produced. They wish to distinguish themselves by offering a unique taste, understanding that a good coffee is comparable to a fine wine.

To this purpose, The Java House proudly offers Iowa City the opportunity to enjoy Injerto as our featured espresso. Located in the municipality of La Libertad, Huehuetenango, Guatemala, the plantation is surrounded by rain forest which supports an ideal micro-climate. Regular sampling of soil and leaf allow close attention to be paid to the health of the crop. These measures make insecticide and fungicide unnecessary, so the environment is disturbed as little as possible.

A similar level of care is given to the workers and their families. On site housing and medicines are provided to ensure comfort and enable increased focus and pride in the harvest. Such devotion to the land and people shows itself in the multiple awards this certified coffee has achieved, and helps sustain the process of cultivation and harvest done by hand.

We hope you enjoy Guatemalan Injerto in your cappuccino, macchiato, or espresso before out limited supply is gone.
