211 1/2 East Washington Street, Iowa City Wrestling With Wolves Wrestling With Wolves in the next evolutionary step in the musical life of Danny Wolf, who spent a number of years recording and touring full-time with national artists Small Towns Burn A Little Slower before the group disbanded in early '08. A native son of Iowa, Wolf's lyrics and themes often revolve around coming-of-age in the Midwest where family secrets, rural communities, religion, and drugs are all elements to stories that weave in and out of one another. One moment he may be singing about the simple joy of attending a swap meet and the next, describing the neighbors' amphetamine fueled fights heard through walls too thin to keep the reality hidden. Taking a huge musical departure from his previous band and instead turning to his father's record collection for inspiration, Wrestling With Wolves nods more towards Springsteen, Dylan, and Simon & Garfunkel than the bombastic indie-rock with which Wolf previously used as a vehicle to earn his name. Nikki Lunden Trio Nikki Lunden emerges from her annual winter hibernation with a strong new rock album, and a trio to tour it. More rock oriented than ever before, Nikki Lunden and her new outfit (The Nikki Lunden Trio) are a tasteful high energy, eye catching group. With Nikki's trademark lyrical angst and elastic vocal stylings reflecting on life, love, and self-realization - this powerful rock trio is set out to put a beat in your step and a tune to your whistle! Scott Cochran Scott, a native of Coralville, Iowa, was surrounded by music from a young age. His earliest memories are sitting on the floor playing while his grandmother sang her original songs and cooked up some Iowa farm girl deliciousness. Scott is the principle singer and songwriter for the band Flannel, and is forging a new country/Americana/roots/rock blend: Genuine Corn-fed Cosmic Iowa Roots Music. He sites as his main influences: Hank Williams, Lou Reed, Gram Parsons and Abe Lincoln. |
